The origin story
A love letter that became a children’s book.
Princess and Scruffy began as a love letter Sean O’Leary wrote to his girlfriend thirty-eight years ago. She later became his wife.
Decades later, when they were expecting their first grandchild, Sean began the self-publishing journey that would turn that private love letter into a storybook gift: something their grandchild could hold, hear, and grow up with.
The book became a way to say, in story form, how Grandpa and Meemaw met, fell in love, and carried that love forward.
Why it matters
Children remember the voices that read to them.
This is not only a book for children. It is a book for the adults who sit beside them: parents, guardians, grandparents, aunts, uncles, teachers, librarians, daycare staff, nurses, and family friends.
Reading aloud creates rhythm, comfort, memory, and connection. A child may not remember every sentence, but they remember who made room for the story.
